√2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo confirmed for Australia as launch edition
Skoda’s all-new small car will be coming as a one-variant launch edition – but with more power, space and technology, it’s likely to cost more.
The new 2022 Skoda Fabia city car will return to Australia this year after a brief hiatus in new-generation form, with a ‘Monte Carlo Edition 150’ launch model.
Speaking to media at the launch of its facelifted Skoda Kodiaq range, Skoda Australia confirmed its Fabia will return “in the third quarter of 2022 [July to September]”, and that it will be “offered as one variant, the Monte Carlo 150, as a launch edition”.
It also confirmed that the Fabia Monte Carlo 150 launch edition will be powered by a 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission – rather than the smaller 1.0-litre three-cylinder standard-fit in Europe.
However, the fitment of the more potent engine and sporty trim as standard – combined with its larger body and technological advancements – means the new Fabia is likely to be more expensive than the car it replaces, which in Monte Carlo hatch trim in 2020 was priced from $28,490 drive-away.
While the car will launch with a sole variant, Skoda Australia’s comments allude to it bolstering the range with more versions at a later date.
The 2022 Skoda Fabia is an all-new model, and is both larger and more powerful than the once it replaces.
It also rides on the Volkswagen Group’s latest ‘MQB A0’ architecture – shared with the Volkswagen Polo – which means it can be equipped with the brand’s latest portfolio of drivelines, emissions technology, and advanced driver assist systems.
