√Why is there no Ford Ranger Raptor Super Cab?

The Ford Ranger Raptor is available in a four-door bodystyle only, even though some customers would prefer a two-door ‘Super Cab’. Here’s why a two-door option isn’t available.

Anyone holding their breath for a two-door ‘Super Cab’ version of the new Ford Ranger Raptor made need to exhale and start again.

Ford says it has no plans to introduce a two-door ‘Super Cab’ version of the new Ford Ranger Raptor – even though such a vehicle would deliver a larger ute tray and extra storage behind the front seats.

“Most Ranger Raptor customers we’ve gone and spoken to want a dual cab, they want two rows of seats, it’s the most popular configuration,” Ian Foston, the chief engineer for the new-generation Ford Ranger, told Drive during a media preview last week.

“If customers come to us and we suddenly find demand for a ‘Super Cab’ version of the Ford Ranger Raptor, then we might think about it.

“But at this stage, it’s purely a dual cab for Ranger Raptor.”

Drive understands although a two-door version seems like a straightforward program, there are slight weight distribution differences between the two vehicles, as well as production line complexity – all of which costs time and money.

And the addition of such a model would further fragment the massive Ford Ranger model line-up.

The Super (or ‘Space’) Cab, although it has a larger ute tray, would still be limited in terms of payload due to the finely-tuned off-road.

There is also the matter of production line complexity. One of the challenges for Ford is there are so many variants in the new Ranger line-up, adding another would put further pressure on the factory and logistics.
