√2023 BMW 2 Series Coupe price and specs: 230i arrives

The BMW 2 Series range has gained its promised mid-tier 230i variant – though prices of the base 220i have risen for the New Year.

  • 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe price and specs
  • 230i added with 190kW/400Nm turbo four-cylinder
  • Standard kit slots between 220i and M240i
  • Priced from $61,900 plus on-road costs

The 2023 BMW 2 Series Coupe range has grown with the addition of a new 230i variant, slotting between the entry 220i and sporty M240i xDrive.

Priced from $70,900 plus on-road costs, the 230i version of BMW’s new 2 Series Coupe shares its running gear with the larger 330i sedan, pairing a 190kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Powering the rear wheels, BMW claims a 5.8-second 0-100km/h sprint time.

For comparison, the 220i uses a 135kW/300Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, eight-speed auto and rear-wheel drive for a 7.5-second 0-100km/h dash, while the M240i xDrive scores a 285kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbo inline-six, eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive for a 4.3-second run.

While local launch timing is yet to be confirmed by BMW Australia, the next-generation M2 flagship is likely to arrive locally in the first half of next year.

Preceding the 230i’s arrival, the price of the entry-level 220i has increased over the course of recent months, from $59,900 to $61,900 plus on-road costs – despite the unavailability of the previously-standard head-up display, expected to be a result of the semiconductor shortage.

The optional Driving Assistant Professional package – which includes advanced lane-centring assistance, front cross-traffic alert, and braking for the blind-spot monitoring system – still does not appear to be available, according to BMW Australia’s media release, likely due to the semiconductor shortage.

However, autonomous emergency braking, manual (or adaptive) cruise control, less advanced lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring (which can detect, not brake for obstacles), and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on most or all variants.

Standard features on the entry-level 220i Coupe include the M Sport package, 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels, sports seats, and Alcantara and Sensatec faux leather upholstery.

The 230i adds features including adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, M Sport brakes and electric front seats, while the M240i scores 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, heated front seats, Vernasca leather trim, a head-up display, and a Harman Kardon audio system.

The 2022 BMW 230i is due in showrooms next month.
