√2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 teased, reveal due within weeks

Hyundai’s second dedicated Ioniq electric car will break cover later this month, with a sleek liftback shape billed as a “streamliner”.

The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 has been teased, ahead of the first full photos due later this month – and a full unveiling rumoured to occur in South Korea in July 14.

The second model in Hyundai’s new range of Ioniq dedicated electric vehicles – following the Ioniq 5 SUV – the new Ioniq 6 is the brand’s rival for Tesla’s Model 3 and Model S sedans, underpinned by the company’s E-GMP modular electric platform.

As previewed in the teaser image above, the Ioniq 6 is billed as a “streamliner”, with a sleek, low-slung liftback body, arching roofline and smooth surfaces derived from the Prophecy concept revealed in early 2020.

While spy photos reveal the concept’s proportions will be toned down for production, the show car’s silhouette, futuristic vertical tail-lights (mounted largely in the rear bumper) and ‘whale tail’ spoiler will carry across to the road car.

Full specifications will be announced at the car’s reveal in the coming weeks, however reports suggest the Ioniq 6 will measure approximately 4.9 metres long – about 200mm longer than a Model 3 – with a long wheelbase designed to house a long-range 77.4kWh battery pack.

Reports suggest a choice of single-motor, rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layouts will be offered, good for up to 230kW, and 500km of claimed driving range.

Hyundai will “fully unveil both exterior and interior designs” of the new 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 before the end of June, ahead of a global unveiling rumoured to occur on July 14 at the Busan motor show in South Korea.

An Australian launch is due in late 2022 or early 2023.
