√2023 Toyota C-HR: All-electric model rumoured

Toyota is said to be preparing an all-electric C-HR to be offered alongside the petrol model for the next generation.

The 2023 Toyota C-HR is shaping up to represent a full model change for the small SUV, according to the latest rumours out of Japan.

Response (citing Spyder7) is reporting a new C-HR is on the way from Toyota, and the model is said to be offered with a fully-electric powertrain as an option.

A hybrid 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is also on the cards, with the company’s TNGA-C platform to continue to underpin the vehicle into the new generation.

The battery-powered Toyota BZ3X – previewed as the BZ Compact SUV at the carmaker’s electric showcase in late 2021 – is the likely candidate to be the basis for the electric C-HR, as well as providing the inspiration for its looks.

It’s expected the new model could adopt the BZ’s C-shaped headlights and body lines when it eventually arrives.

However, the Small SU EV concept – which may be badged as the BZ2X – is also a candidate for the electric C-HR, offering a more fun and funky design compared to the BZ3X, with its two-tone paint and more upright shape.

According to the Japanese rumours, the petrol variants of the next-gen Toyota C-HR will be unveiled in 2023, with the electric model to be announced at a later date.

It’s unclear if the new electric C-HR will remain exclusive to China, as per the outgoing model, or will be offered globally.
