√2023 Lexus ES updated for Europe, likely for Australia

A new infotainment system, no more touchpad controller and various connectivity and trim updates headline the updated Lexus ES range, coming soon to Europe.

The 2023 Lexus ES has been updated for Europe for the new model year – and an Australian launch is likely to follow.

A year on from the car’s mid-life facelift – launched in Australia last August for Model Year 2022 (MY22) – Lexus has updated the ES again, with mild technology upgrades, and tweaks to trim and connectivity features.

Headlining the updates is the addition of the Toyota group’s latest infotainment system, offering wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, cloud-based satellite navigation, and a “Hey Lexus” voice assistant.

The car’s data communication module (DCM) has been upgraded to enable a 24/7 ‘e-Care’ technical support service, and an expanded smartphone companion app – branded Lexus Connected Services in Australia, or Lexus Link in Europe – with remote control of the car’s door locks, hazard lights and air conditioning.

The current car’s touchpad infotainment controller has been ditched, creating space for two cup holders, and a repositioned wireless charger outside of the centre storage box. One USB-A and one USB-C port has replaced two USB-A and one 3.5mm auxiliary port.

Other updates include a new Rich Cream interior colour (replacing ‘Ammonite Sand’), and a new F Sport Design variant for Europe with black 19-inch wheels, F Sport Design badging, and a choice of 10 exterior and four interior colours.

No changes have been made under the bonnet, where available engines in Europe range from a 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder engine, to a 2.5-litre hybrid, or a 3.5-litre petrol V6 – depending on market.

Production of the 2023 Lexus ES will begin for Europe next month, ahead of first deliveries in the region in October.

A Lexus Australia spokesperson would not be drawn on if and when the European updates will reach local showrooms – however with the two vehicles built on the same assembly lines, an Australian launch could occur as soon as later this year, or early next year.
