Supercharged V8 specialist Dodge claims its new Charger Daytona SRT Concept electric car “sounds like a Dodge”. Make up your own mind with this new video.
US giant Dodge – known for its V8 muscle cars – revealed the Charger Daytona SRT Concept earlier this week, an electric concept vehicle designed to preview a battery-powered production car due in 2024.
In an attempt to appeal to traditional V8 fans unconvinced by the concept of electric performance, Dodge fitted the Charger Daytona SRT concept with what’s dubbed a “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust”.
Claimed to be as loud (126dB) as a supercharged V8-powered Charger Hellcat, the system appears to be an artificial sound generator – rather than a mechanical exhaust – creating a “one-of-a-kind” audio using an amplifier and “tuning chamber” at the rear of the vehicle.
“The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust represents the next generation of tactile, bone-shaking, muscle attitude, creating a visceral “Dark Matter” sound profile experience,” Dodge said in a media statement.
Not convinced? Dodge has released a video (above) of the Charger Daytona SRT Concept powered on, infused with a few synthesised ‘revs’ (2:21, 2:31 and 2:37 in the video) which show off a sound that tries to mix an electric motor’s whine with a big petrol engine’s rumble.
It’s unclear whether the production 2024 Dodge electric muscle car will be quite as loud – though a version of the Fratzonic “exhaust” seems likely, given the American car maker says the system is patent pending.
