√2015 Kia Carnival and Sorento recalled with transmission fault

A faulty shift lock mechanism could allow the gear selector to be moved from ‘Park’ without holding the brakes.

Kia Australia has recalled 1512 examples of its 2015 Kia Carnival people mover and 2015 Kia Sorento SUV, citing a manufacturing issue with the shift lock mechanism fitted to the pair’s automatic transmissions.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The shift lock holder may have been produced out of specification, as a result the shift lock mechanism may not return to the locked position allowing the gear selector to be moved from ‘park without depressing the brake pedal.

“If the gear selector is unintentionally moved out of park without depressing the brake pedal, it may result in a vehicle to roll-away potentially increasing the risk of injury or death to occupants or other road users.”
