√2016-2022 Suzuki Swift, Baleno, Vitara and S-Cross recalled: 21,600 cars affected

Across the four models, 21,610 vehicles have been affected by a defective brake booster valve.

Suzuki in Australia has recalled 21,610 examples of the 2016-2022 Suzuki Swift, Baleno, Vitara and S-Cross, citing a manufacturing defect in the brake booster valve.

Of the 21,610 Suzuki vehicles affected in Australia, 18,144 examples were sold by Suzuki Australia – which sells Suzuki cars across all states and territories except Queensland – while the remaining 3466 were sold by Suzuki Auto Co. QLD, the distributor for Suzuki cars in Queensland.

The recall notices for cars sold by Suzuki Australia (click here) and Suzuki Queensland (click here), lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, say: “Due to a manufacturing defect, the valve between the engine and the vacuum assist brake booster may swell under certain conditions. As a result, an increased brake pedal effort may be required to achieve the expected stopping distance.

“If the braking system does not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of a crash resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.

“Note: The brake system remains functional.”
