√Nismo debuts the 2023 Nissan Z GT4 race car

Serious about your track days? Nissan has just the thing for you.

The 2023 Nissan Z GT4 has been unveiled in Japan this morning as a dedicated track car.

Nissan’s motorsport arm, Nismo, has transformed the new Z coupe into a race car suitable for the GT4 series, stripping out weight, adding strength, and improving aerodynamics within the class rules.

While full specifications for the Z won’t be revealed until the industry’s SEMA show in the US in November, it’s expected the vehicle will use a lightly modified version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, which produces 298kW and 475Nm in the road-going model.

“Motorsports for Nissan is an expression of our passion and unrivalled expertise,” Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta said at the unveiling.

“The Nissan Z continues to maintain its position as an exciting sports car that fascinates drivers with its driving dynamics and flexible powertrain.

“We are confident that this track-ready GT4-category Nissan Z will be ready to write another chapter in the Nissan Z’s 50-plus-year legacy of speed.”

The GT4 category was set-up as a (relatively speaking) budget-friendly racing category, allowing privateers to compete against larger teams on a level playing field – with the world’s peak motorsport body, the FIA, ensuring vehicles enjoy near-identical performance.

In December 2021, Nismo showed off its Nissan Z GT500 race car for the Japanese Super GT series, complete with a wild body kit and side-exit exhaust – and a high-powered 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine to meet regulations.

Earlier this week, reports out of Japan suggested a road-ready Nismo version of the Nissan Z is due in mid 2023, with increased performance expected thanks to a high-flow exhaust system and revised engine tune, along with refreshed looks and upgraded brakes.
