√2023 Mazda CX-5 price and specs

The updated Mazda CX-5 gains more technology as standard and a new colour – but there’s no more manual transmission, and prices are up by $200 to $1000.

  • 2023 Mazda CX-5 pricing and specifications
  • 10.25-inch infotainment screen standard across the range
  • USB-C ports and new colour added
  • Priced from $35,390 plus on-road costs

The updated 2023 Mazda CX-5 range is due in Australia early next year with more technology as standard, and price rises of $1000 across most models.

After a mid-life facelift last year, Mazda has updated the CX-5 again with a larger infotainment screen standard across the range, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on most models, and a new colour – though with price rises between $200 and $1000, depending on model grade.

The entry-level Maxx’s standard six-speed manual transmission has been axed, after it only accounted for about one per cent of sales – meaning the price of entry into the CX-5 range is now $3000 higher than before, at $35,390 plus on-road costs (vs $32,390 for the old Maxx manual).

All models are now fitted with the larger 10.25-inch ‘Mazda Connect’ infotainment screen previously exclusive to the GT SP and Akera, replacing the ageing 8.0-inch ‘MZD Connect’ screen previously fitted to all other models.

Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard on the base Maxx – with the Maxx Sport and above adding embedded satellite navigation, and wireless (in addition to wired) connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There are now two USB-C ports in the centre console, and there’s a new feature allowing the windows to be opened from the key fob (but not closed again). Rhodium White has been added to the colour palette – priced at $795 – replacing the no-cost Snowflake White paint finish.

The service intervals for all petrol variants of the CX-5 have increased to 12 months or 15,000km – but the diesel models appear to remain at 12 months or 10,000km, as previously offered for the petrol.

Six model grades continue to be available – Maxx, Maxx Sport, Touring, Touring Active, GT SP and Akera – across four engines: 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre non-turbo petrols, a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol, and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel.

The base Maxx comes standard with a 2.0-litre non-turbo petrol four-cylinder engine which produces 115kW and 200Nm, powering the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Most models are fitted with a 140kW/252Nm 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard in the Maxx Sport, while all-wheel drive is optional in the Maxx Sport, or standard in other models.

Available on the Touring Active and Akera is a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder, developing 140kW and 450Nm, sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The most powerful option is a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder – available only on the GT SP and Akera – routing 170kW and 420Nm to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is on sale now.
