√2024 Lucid Gravity electric SUV previewed for the US
Electric vehicle start-up Lucid has dropped the first details of its second model, the Gravity, ahead of first US deliveries due in 2024.
The 2024 Lucid Gravity – the second model from US electric-car start-up Lucid – has been revealed in initial preview images, ahead of first details due early next year, and US deliveries in 2024.
A large luxury SUV designed to rival a Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV or Tesla Model X, Lucid’s new Gravity is based on the same underpinnings as the Air sedan – but adopts a taller body shell to fit up to seven seats.
No timeline has been given for an Australian launch, however a report from the UK’s Autocar earlier this year suggested a right-hand-drive version of the Lucid Air was planned – and an equivalent version of the Gravity SUV would be a logical next step.
“Further information about the full Lucid Gravity lineup will be released in early 2023 when reservations open. Availability and timing for markets outside the US and Canada will be announced at a future date,” Lucid says in its press release.
Teaser photos released overnight preview bodywork inspired by the Air, with smooth surfaces, metal trim spanning the front of the vehicle, full-width LED front and rear light bars, and large machined alloy wheels.
Inside, Lucid says there’s space for five, six or seven people – across two- or three-row configurations – with an expansive glass roof, and the “next generation” of the company’s infotainment software.
Performance specifications are yet to be confirmed, however Lucid promises “supercar performance”, and “more range than any other EV – other than its stablemate, Lucid Air.”
For context, the Lucid Air sedan develops up to 895kW, or cover up to a claimed 830km on a charge in its fastest and longest-range forms.
Lucid also highlights “sports-tuned” air suspension, bi-directional charging technology, a large storage area under the front ‘bonnet’, towing capabilities, and a body “more aerodynamic than any SUV the world has ever seen”.
Reservations for the 2024 Lucid Gravity are due to open for the US and Canada early next year, with the first customer cars due to “land” in 2024, according to Lucid.
Production is set to take place at the company’s factory in Arizona, USA, which was built from the ground-up by the start-up – rather than purchased from another car maker and adapted (such as Tesla’s California factory once used by Toyota, or Rivian’s plant formerly owned by Mitsubishi).
