√One-off Bugatti Chiron Profilee heading to auction
The Bugatti Chiron ‘Profilée’ is the iconic French hypercar’s final variant, and potential buyers will have one chance to buy the bespoke build at auction next year.
A special edition, one-off Bugatti Chiron is due to go to auction in February next year, signalling the beginning of the end for the French marque’s iconic hypercar.
In a media statement, Bugatti said the bespoke Chiron – named Profilée – is a “less radical version” of the Pur Sport, but still based on its iconic hypercar platform.
The Chiron was launched in 2016 as a successor to the Veyron – Bugatti’s most famous model which twice set the record as the world’s fastest production car.
Bugatti initially announced Chiron production would be limited to 500 examples – including variants such as the Pur Sport, Super Sport and Centodieci – but the Profilée adds an extra one to the tally.
The Chiron Profilée’s power comes from Bugatti’s iconic 8.0-litre, quad-turbocharged ‘W16’ engine, producing 1177kW and 1600Nm which drives all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
According to Bugatti, the Chiron Profilée’s gearbox is fitted with shorter gear ratios than the Pur Sport, although its top speed has increased from 350km/h to 380km/h, while it is also capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 2.3 seconds – one-tenth faster than the ‘standard’ Chiron.
Despite being a one-off build, Bugatti has made sure the Chiron Profilée stands apart from its counterparts, fitting its bodywork with a fixed rear spoiler, as well as unique front and rear bumpers – finished in the bespoke ‘Argent Atlantique’ blue.
Changes to the Chiron’s suspension have also been made, with the Profilée’s suspension now 10 per cent stiffer and offering 50 per cent more camber than the Pur Sport, which Bugatti claims can deliver more grip without sacrificing comfort.
While the Profilée is the final Chiron to be revealed, the W16 Mistral roadster will be the hypercar’s final variant to roll off the production line in 2024.
As the Chiron Profilée is a one-off, Bugatti hasn’t provided an estimation of its price, but previous Chiron Pur Sport auction results suggest it could sell for more than the equivalent of $AU7 million.
In May 2022, a near-new Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport was listed on US auction website Bring A Trailer, selling for an eye-watering $US4.4 million ($AU6.54 million) – more than its original $US3,871,500 ($AU5,761,500) retail price.
The Bugatti Chiron Profilée is due to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in Paris on 1 February 2023, with the car-maker claiming a percentage of the proceeds will go towards charitable causes.
