√Tesla update turns its electric cars into a Christmas light show

Tesla’s ‘Holiday Mode’ light show has been updated for 2022, making it easier for owners to use the program in sync with other cars.

US electric-car giant Tesla has rolled out a free software update to create a Christmas-themed light show, as well as allowing owners to program their own mini concert.

First released on Christmas Eve 2021, Tesla’s ‘Holiday Mode’ program puts on a festive light show by using its electric car’s lights and speakers, which can be projected onto a flat surface such as a garage door.

The software also allows owners to either use Tesla’s supplied songs and light sequences or create their own, doing so by writing a program on a computer and uploading it to their electric car via USB.

For Christmas 2022, the light show function can now be scheduled up to 10 minutes in advance, which can be used to park multiple Teslas next to each other and perform the light show in sync.

Tesla previewed this year’s Holiday Mode in a video uploaded to YouTube, with 14 of its electric cars parked next to each other and performing the festive light show.

In Australia, Holiday Mode is available via an over-the-air update in the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, while the updated Model S and Model X can also use the function in overseas markets.

As reported last week, Tesla’s latest software updates also include the ability for owners of 2022 model year Model S and Model Xs to play more than 6000 video games on the car’s infotainment screens – although it is not available in Australia.

Additional software updates include integrated Apple Music and ‘Dog Mode’ – allowing owners to check on their pets in the car through the Tesla smartphone app.
