√Chilling new road safety video police are talking about

Spare 60 seconds today to watch the latest road safety commercial in New Zealand that follows the daily grind through the eyes of a police officer.

A New Zealand road safety video – which went viral over the weekend – has given motorists a rare glimpse into the daily grind of highway patrol officers.

The 60-second clip – uploaded to YouTube – follows a highway patrol officer issuing speeding tickets.

The advertisement also humanises the officer who is depicted taking a coffee break at a service station and chatting to his family on the phone before being called away suddenly.

After the officer writes another ticket, he has flashbacks of what appears to be a fatal or serious injury crash.

“Nailed it,” wrote one highway patrol officer. “Heavy,” another wrote. “Hits you in the feels,” said a commenter on Facebook.

The gripping 60-second video can be seen below.

New Zealand authorities have a reputation for advertisements that cut through the hype and deliver safety messages that connect better with audiences rather than preaching to them.

Among them is this award-winning drink-driving ad from 11 years ago (below).

It has clocked up 3.6 million views and counting.

Meanwhile, it is unclear if the highway patrol officer in the latest New Zealand road safety video is an actor or the real deal, but authorities have previously used serving police in their advertisements.

All officers depicted in a recruitment video from 2017 (below) were serving police – despite the impressive stunts.

If you can spare another three minutes for the recruitment video – after watching the two 60-second road safety commercials above – it’s worth a look, especially for the bloopers at the end. It has 1.9 million views and counting.
