√Porsche recall search for four electric cars due to suspension failure

Porsche Cars Australia is on the lookout for four Taycan electric cars with faulty front suspension that could cause a loss of control.

The fifth Porsche recall in Australia in less than a year has again put the German sports car company’s landmark electric car, the Taycan, in the safety spotlight.

This time the safety recall is for a serious fault in the front suspension which affect the car’s stability and make it uncontrollable.

There were four Porsche recalls in Australia last year, two for the Taycan and one each for the Cayenne and 911 sports car.

Porsche Cars Australia told Drive the four cars involved in the latest recall are the Taycan 4S model, currently priced from $197,200 before on-road costs.

Although it is against ACCC guidelines to minimise the risk of any recall, a Porsche spokesperson told Drive: “We have not had any cases of suspension failure in Australia, and there’s a very low failure overall so we don’t expect to have one fail here.”

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The air-spring strut on the left and right of the front axle may not meet manufacturing specifications.

“This could cause the front strut to become dislodged and release air from the air spring resulting in a loss of vehicle control.

“A loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
