√Honey, I shrunk the Toyota LandCruiser
Want the street cred of a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, but without the worry of parking it? One Chinese company has the answer.
The Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series four-wheel-drive has a waiting list that stretches beyond 12 months – but there could be a way to cut the queue, if you’re prepared to make a few sacrifices.
A Chinese company has given a local micro car the Toyota LandCruiser styling treatment.
Images posted to Chinese social media website Weibo – and spotted by motoring website Carscoops – show the vehicle sporting a blatant copy of the Toyota LandCruiser’s front and rear end appearance, rear window-line, door handles, and squared-off wheel arches.
While little is known about its manufacturer Kuluze, it’s believed the Toyota LandCruiser lookalike could fall into the low-speed electric vehicle (LSEV) category in China – which includes vehicles developed from golf carts for households that can’t necessarily afford a full size car.
It’s not the first time a Chinese company has borrowed the designs of popular models to create their own, smaller versions.

In September 2022, a manufacturer created the Tundar – a dual-cab ute that had more than its name in common with the Toyota Tundra pick-up sold in the US (and soon, Australia).
The vehicle had almost identical headlights, grille, and tail-lights to the Tundra, only on a smaller scale and powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine from Isuzu.
Conversely, last month BMW won a legal challenge against a Chinese company which had filed patents for the original Mini in an attempt to launch an electric version of the classic hatchback.
