√Tesla-driving thieves caught after stopping to charge electric car
Two thieves in the US have discovered stopping to recharge an electric car close to a crime scene is a quick way to get caught.
A pair of criminals who robbed a retail warehouse in the US were caught after stopping to recharge their electric getaway car just 16 kilometres away from the crime scene.
US publication Business Insider reports two thieves allegedly stole $US8000 ($AU12,050) worth of products from a retail store in Buford, Georgia on February 19, 2023 – and made their escape in a Tesla Model X electric SUV.
But using a description of the getaway car, the thieves were soon tracked down and caught by police while recharging at a Tesla ‘Supercharger’ station approximately 16km away from the scene of the robbery.
Recently, North Precinct officers responded to a theft call where they learned that two individuals had taken several gaming systems and fled the store in a Tesla. Photos posted by Gwinnett County Police to social media website Twitter showed the criminals had crammed the stolen video game systems and electronic devices into the back of the Tesla Model X.
The images also show the thieves were in possession of multiple guns and bags of marijuana, though the social media post and subsequent news reports did not say whether these would be included in the charges against the thieves.
According to Business Insider, it is not known whether the criminals owned the Tesla Model X or whether it was a stolen vehicle.
