√Dashcam owner arrested for allegedly causing crashes and posting video online
A Californian couple’s plan to cause crashes and share the dashcam footage online, with a goal to boost YouTube views and claim on insurance, has gone just as badly as you would expect.
In what probably seemed like a good idea at the time, a Californian couple have been arrested for fraudulently claiming insurance for traffic accidents they allegedly caused on purpose. As a bonus, they uploaded the footage to YouTube to monetise the video views, providing law enforcement with plenty of evidence in the process.
The husband and wife have been charged with allegedly filing 17 insurance claims linked to some 23 crashes, made up of over 160 dashcam videos the couple uploaded to their YouTube channel.
Taking things even further, the couple included videos of road rage incidents, stemming from the intentional crashes, that have also lead to assault charges being filed.
While the channel has since been removed, a number of the clips can be seen in this compilation published by a local Los Angeles news broadcaster.
The lesson here, aside from not blatantly committing insurance fraud, is to think about what any dashcam footage says about your driving before sharing it with a global audience.
