√Genesis Mint electric hatch not over the line yet

The pint-sized Genesis Mint electric hatch concept car unveiled four years ago is still no closer to showrooms.

A rival to the Mini electric hatch being developed by Hyundai’s luxury-car division Genesis is not over the line yet, despite being tipped four years ago as a potential starter in the South Korean brand’s future showroom line-up.

The pint-sized Genesis Mint electric hatch was unveiled at the 2019 New York motor show.

However, four years later the concept car seems to be no closer to production.

When asked on the progress of the showroom version of the Genesis Mint concept car, the company’s head of design, Luc Donckerwolke, told Australian media on the eve of the 2023 New York Auto Show overnight:

“We have shown the Mint concept which we still believe in the future it could be an addition to the current line-up.

“We have extended the line-up from sedans to SUVs and there is a potential to increase it for the future, but it all depends on the business case.”

The executive declined to offer more insight, however Drive understands the company is still working through the financials on the vehicle, which is understood to share its underpinnings and technology with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Demand for both those sibling vehicles is off the charts, which could also add to the delayed rollout of the Genesis Mint.

For now, the smallest and most affordable electric car in the Genesis line-up in Australia is the GV60 which was introduced locally late last year.
