√Mean and roofless: Aston Martin DB12 Volante convertible caught on camera
Spy photos reveal the recently unveiled Aston Martin DB12 will include a Volante drop-top variant.
As night follows day, a convertible version of the recently unveiled Aston Martin DB12 has broken cover.
The Aston Martin DB12 convertible – covered in camouflage – has been caught on camera near Germany’s Nurburgring.
Notably, the photos show the Aston Martin DB12 Volante appears to have a fabric folding roof, similar to its predecessor, the DB11.
Certain elements from the DB11 are expected to be carried over to the DB12 Volante, such as the pop-out door handles and the air vents flowing out of the front wheel arches.
However, Aston Martin has made significant changes to the interior. The old Mercedes-sourced infotainment screen and touchpad controller from the DB11 have been replaced with new screens and switchgear designed by Aston Martin.
The Volante variant is expected to feature the coupe’s same 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. Aston Martin has also introduced the Aston Martin App, enabling owners to connect with the car using their smartphones and perform various tasks remotely, such as tracking its location or setting a speed limiter.
Similar to the coupe model, the DB12 Volante will be powered by a reworked version of the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
The test car is equipped with a twin-exhaust system, and the tweaked powertrain is expected to produce 500kW and 800Nm. This represents an increase of 107kW and 125Nm over the DB11’s V8 engine and a boost of 30kW/100Nm compared to the outgoing V12 engine.
While the performance of the DB12 Volante is expected to be impressive, it may not match the coupe’s acceleration time of 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 315km/h.
The Aston Martin DB12 is expected to arrive in Australia in September 2023.
