Italian start-up Aehra unveils new electric sedan
A boutique electric-car brand from Milan has revealed a new luxury sedan with a claimed 800km driving range.
A little-known Italian brand has unveiled its take on a sleek electric car called the Aehra Sedan.
As a follow-up to the equally simplistically named Aehra SUV, Milan-based electric vehicle manufacturer unveiled its second model at the 2023 Milano Monza Motor Show this week.
The Italian start-up is headed by ex-Lamborghini design boss Filippo Perini who, during his time with the iconic sportscar brand, oversaw the design of the Murcielago, Aventador and Estoque sedan concept.
For the Aehra Sedan, the company has prioritised aerodynamics to maximise efficiency at highway speeds.
The Aehra Sedan makes extensive use of carbon fibre in its construction which contributes to a weight of less than two tonnes (2000kg), which helps it achieve a claimed maximum driving range of 800km.
Underneath, the Aehra Sedan is based on the same 925V architecture as the Aehra SUV, and uses a 120kWh battery developed in collaboration with Austrian energy firm Miba.
Aehra says both cars offer 350kW charging capability and the Sedan is expected to feature a triple electric motor setup that produces close to 580kW. For context, a Porsche Taycan Turbo S has a claimed output of 460kW.
Accessible through the unique butterfly-hinged doors, the Sedan’s cabin has space for four occupants. Up front, the driver has an oval ‘yoke-like’ steering wheel and the infotainment system has dual touchscreens and a full-width display across the dash that extends upwards when the car is not in motion, converting the cabin into an office environment.
While both the Aehra Sedan and SUV are still one-off pre-production cars, the company claims to be on track for the first customer deliveries by 2026.
