√2004 Range Rover linked to Queen Elizabeth II sold at auction
Some sleuthing has uncovered the possibility of a royal connection for this old Range Rover.
A green 2004 Range Rover Vogue, which is believed to be once a possession of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has recently sold at auction in the United Kingdom for $AU62,810.
The particular vehicle, which has a Land Rover Special Vehicles plate fitted, has an interesting history of modifications and alterations that indicate a possibility of once being used by Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
However, with its special modifications, there is a possibility it could also have been a security support vehicle for the Royal Family rather than dedicated to the Queen’s personal use.
The evidence is described as circumstantial, and has not been confirmed or denied by the Royal Family.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in the United Kingdom, which maintains a database of driver and vehicle registration records, also refused to disclose the details of the previous owner.
After some investigation by the seller, Land Rover Special Vehicles has confirmed in writing the Range Rover in question was once fitted with covert blue lights into a modified grille, as well as a cargo barrier and seat covers.
The vehicle is also fitted with dual rear window controls (to allow rear passengers to control both rear windows from each side), and there are telltale marks of body repair work on the bonnet and roof, that line up with unique elements on the vehicle driven by the late Queen at the time: a roof-mounted radio antenna and a labrador mascot on the bonnet.
It was these details on the roof and bonnet that led the seller on a journey of discovery, investigating the history of the vehicle.
The Range Rover is described in the auction listing as being in “very good order”, and has 109,000 miles (175,400km) showing on the odometer.
The 2004 Range Rover is a third-generation model known as ‘L322’, which was powered by a BMW-sourced 4.4-litre petrol V8, making 210KW/440Nm and running through a five-speed automatic transmission with permanent four-wheel drive, a low-range transfer case, and adjustable air suspension.
