According to data gathered by the mapping technology company, Sydneysiders spend an average of 203 hours sitting in peak hour each year.

According to Transport for NSW, the area that has experienced the highest daily traffic volume so far in 2023 is, unsurprisingly, Sydney’s CBD, including the suburbs of Haymarket and tourist hotspot The Rocks.
Close behind as the second-most congested suburb of Sydney is Liverpool in Greater Western Sydney, followed by the suburbs of Chatswood and Artarmon in joint third place.
Ryde, a suburb in northern Sydney, ranked fourth for traffic congestion.
In fifth place, Parramatta – often called Sydney’s “second city” – and the nearby suburb of Rosehill both recorded high congestion so far in 2023.
Transport for NSW is in the midst of carrying out multiple “Pinch Point” programs, aimed at reducing congestion at major bottlenecks across Sydney.
Back in 2015, the NSW Government committed $300 million to easing congestion on Sydney’s busiest road corridors over the ensuing 10 years.
