√2024 Mercedes-AMG GT to be unveiled this week

The next-generation, front-engined Porsche 911 rival from Mercedes-AMG will make its debut at Monterey Car Week this month.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT sports car is due to be unveiled on August 17 (US time) at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance car show in California, as part of Monterey Car Week.

The second generation of Mercedes-AMG’s standalone front-engined sports car – which replaced the SLS – is the coupe twin of the latest Mercedes-AMG SL convertible, which arrived in Australian showrooms in recent weeks.

It is expected to launch with twin-turbo V8 petrol power, though plug-in hybrid versions – as well as smaller six-cylinder, or even high-output four-cylinder engines – could follow at a later date.

The new GT will be offered exclusively as a coupe, with no plans for a convertible as that role will be filled by the SL.

Leaked photos of the new AMG GT surfaced online earlier this year, showing a more aggressive look with design cues and body proportions from its convertible relative.

Top-of-the-range versions are expected to adopt an even bolder front-end design, with a larger, two-piece grille opening inspired by the GT Black Series flagship of the current line-up.
