√2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 electric car arrives with lower price

Mercedes-Benz’s flagship electric sedan has added a more affordable – and less powerful – model, due in showrooms next month.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan range has been expanded with a cheaper EQS450 model, due in showrooms next month.

Priced from $219,900 plus on-road costs, it is nearly $110,000 cheaper than the sole AMG EQS53 variant offered since the EQS arrived in Mercedes-Benz showrooms this time last year.

It is $5000 more expensive than the top-of-the-range AMG version of the smaller EQE sedan that launched earlier this year.

Compared to the EQS53, the EQS450 quotes less power in exchange for a longer driving range, and is not as well equipped as the flagship AMG version.

Powering the all-wheel-drive EQS450 are dual electric motors developing 265kW and 800Nm, and a 107.8kWh battery pack driving all four wheels for a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds, and 664km of claimed driving range in lenient NEDC lab testing.

For comparison, the all-wheel-drive AMG EQS53 has the same 107.8kWh battery but dual electric motors developing 484kW/900Nm in standard form, or 560kW/1020Nm with the Dynamic Plus package – good for a 0-100km/h time as quick as 3.4 seconds, and 587km of claimed NEDC range.

The EQS450 can charge at up to 200kW on a DC public charger, or 22kW on an AC socket.

Standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels, AMG Line exterior styling, Digital Light adaptive LED headlights, a 12.8-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch instrument display, heated and cooled front comfort seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, head-up display, rear-wheel steering, 15-speaker Burmester stereo, and a suite of advanced safety systems.

It misses out on the AMG EQS53’s MBUX Hyperscreen – with a 12.3-inch driver instrument, 17.7-inch centre touchscreen and 12.3-inch passenger display – plus AMG-specific styling, AMG performance brakes, sports seats, and other extras.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 is available to order now ahead of first Australian showroom arrivals due in September 2023.
