√YouTuber who bought Ferrari F8 to destroy it… destroys it

The poorly treated supercar caught fire while being driven through a cornfield and has been completely destroyed

The red Ferrari F8 Tributo, purchased by a YouTuber earlier this year with the intent of being driven to destruction, has been destroyed by fire.

In a clip released this week, YouTuber Cody Detwiler, who goes by the name ‘Whistlindiesel‘, is shown driving the supercar through a dry, harvested cornfield when the combination of corn husks and hot exhausts causes the car to ignite. Detwiler exits the car unharmed, but as his production crew ‘attempts’ to suppress the flames, their Chrysler Pacifica van also catches fire and is destroyed.

The fire brigade eventually arrive to stop the fire from spreading through the dry field to other locations, and while both vehicles were lost, no one was injured.

The video notes the temperature on the day of the shoot in Texas was 116 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celcius), conditions which makes stopping a car on dry grass (or corn) very dangerous. In 2019 a NSW Highway Patrol car was destroyed by fire after stopping in long grass following a pursuit, and in January this year, a grass fire destroyed 18 cars at a regional racecourse in Victoria.

Before it met its untimely demise, the Ferrari seemed to respond to Detwiler’s harsh treatment better than expected. Footage of it being driven quickly over rough surfaces, down hills, and used to cart produce would not have done wonders for the Italian supercar’s condition, but was shown to keep going despite the abuse.

The Ferrari is not the only car to meet a ‘tragic’ end at the hands of Detwiler this year, with a 100-year-old Model T Ford and Tesla Model 3 both subjected to destructive abuse at the hands of the content producer. Add those to countless pickup trucks, a Mercedes-Benz G63 and a Toyota Hilux that was dropped from a helicopter, and it’s no wonder the YouTube account has amassed over 675-million views since 2015.
