√2024 Suzuki Jimny three-door auto sold out in five hours, 1500 five-door orders and counting

The Suzuki Jimny three-door automatic is back on pause after a batch of 500 cars sold out in less than five hours. A wait list is already forming for the upcoming five-door version.

A limited batch of 500 examples of the 2024 Suzuki Jimny three-door automatic made available on Monday have sold out in less than five hours, as the order books are closed once again.

Announced earlier this month, a pause on orders for the Suzuki Jimny three-door automatic introduced in January was lifted on Monday 18 September with a batch of 500 cars made available to order on a first-come, first-served basis.

Suzuki Australia has confirmed the allocation sold out in “just under” five hours – with one metro dealer writing 40 orders alone – and order books have closed once again for the foreseeable future.

It is unclear when orders will open again for the three-door automatic, which when order books closed in January 2023 faced a wait list of about 18 months.

In June 2023 the queue still stretched “well into 2024”, Suzuki Australia boss Michael Pachota told Drive.

In addition to the 500 three-door automatics, the company says it took 34 orders for the three-door manual – which was never affected by the order pause – in the same five-hour period, and 62 more pre-orders for the upcoming Suzuki Jimny five-door.

Suzuki Australia says it is now holding more than 1500 pre-orders for the five-door, which is due in Australian showrooms between January and March 2024.

Pricing and specifications are expected to be announced before the end of this year.

It is expected to be equipped similarly to the three-door model – with the same 1.5-litre engine and choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission – but with a price premium on account of its longer body.

Suzuki Australia said earlier this month that since the pause on three-door automatic orders in January, it has seen “order rates” for the manual increase by 256 per cent.

However – given the manual previously accounted for approximately 20 per cent of Suzuki Jimny sales – it suggests Suzuki Australia is taking two-thirds as many Jimny orders as it did when there was a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes.
