√New Alfa Romeo city SUV leaked, due in 2024
Photos believed to show Alfa Romeo’s new smallest model have leaked online ahead of its launch next year.
The upcoming entry-level Alfa Romeo city SUV – known internally as the ‘Kid’ – have appeared online ahead of its unveiling next year.
Images posted to Instagram by Cochespias show the new city SUV will blend design elements from the larger Tonale with shrunken proportions and edgier styling cues in the front grille and headlights.
The new model – known so far only by its codename, ‘Kid’ – is planned to launch in 2024 with electric power only, though a petrol-only or hybrid version is set to follow.

It is expected to be related to the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600 city SUVs on sale in Europe, which measure about 4.1 metres long – a touch smaller than a Mazda CX-3 or Toyota Yaris Cross.
The leaked images – which could have come from internal documents, or the car’s owner’s manual – reveal a more angular front fascia than current Alfa Romeos, with the badge on the bonnet, not the grille.
The headlights are sharper than the Tonale, but retain a nod to their three-eye signatures – which is inspired by the Alfa Romeo SZ of the 1990s, among other models from the company’s back catalogue.
The photos indicate the ‘Kid’ will be available with a petrol engine in some form – judging by the fuel gauge icon in one image, and the gear indicator in many of the shots – seemingly augmented by hybrid technology.
There appears to be a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.
For context, the Jeep Avenger is available in electric form with a 54kWh battery and 115kW electric motor delivering 400km of claimed driving range – or a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, non-hybrid engine with 75kW and a six-speed manual transmission.
Alfa Romeo is yet to reveal the name of its new SUV, and earlier this year published a campaign on social media to ask fans of the brand – known as ‘Alfisti’ – for suggestions.
It has said it will not be badged ‘Brenner’ (or Brennero), as some European reports have previously suggested. Alfa Romeo recently trademarked the Visconti name, borrowed from a 2004 concept car.
Some unverified reports – from an unknown source, and yet to be confirmed by Alfa Romeo – on social media have claimed the new vehicle may be named the Arna.
The original Alfa Romeo Arna of 1983 was a small hatchback produced in a joint venture between the Italian car maker and Japan’s Nissan, to succeed the Alfa Romeo-designed Alfasud.
Rather than having Alfa Romeo design the car, and tune the handling – and combine it with Japanese-designed Nissan engines, electrics and production – it was a rebadged version of Nissan’s Cherry hatchback, built in Italy with Alfa Romeo Alfasud engines and electronic components.
The Arna – short for “Alfa Romeo Nissan Autoveicoli”, with the final word Italian for “motor vehicles” – has been labelled by some critics including UK publication Auto Express as among the “worst cars of all time”.
Alfa Romeo has not commented on the reports, and it is unclear the original source of the rumour.
The Alfa Romeo city SUV is due to be unveiled in the first half of next year.
