√Dog ‘driving’ car caught speeding by police
A dog has been caught on camera while sitting behind the wheel of a Skoda Kamiq in Europe.
A large dog behind the wheel of a Skoda Kamiq city SUV has allegedly been caught speeding by police.
The brown labrador was picked up by cameras in the village of Šterusy, Slovakia.
“Mr Dog, you are over speeding in the village,” a translation of the police announcement said.
“Police did not believe their own eyes on the police radar. Instead of a photo of the driver, a brown hunting dog, who sat obediently … and peeked out the windshield promising young deer.
“We ruined the boy’s hunting plans and ended his wandering around the tent.”
The 31-year-old owner of the car said his dog had unexpectedly jumped on his lap just as the photo was taken. Officers disputed this and issued a fine.
Skoda – the Volkswagen-owned Czech brand – is the top-selling car manufacturer in Slovakia.
A study published in 2020 found drivers were safer when travelling with their pet dog. However, safety experts advise it is illegal to have them on your lap while behind the wheel, and they should be properly secured in the back seat or cargo area.
