√German drivers can now pay for fuel through their Mercedes-Benz
Mastercard and Mercedes-Benz have launched a new in-car fuel payment system in Germany, allowing motorists to simply fill up, pay automatically, and drive off.
Mercedes-Benz owners in Germany can now pay for fuel via their car’s infotainment system.
Credit card company Mastercard has partnered with Mercedes-Benz to launch ‘Pay+’, which will allow drivers to pay for their petrol or diesel using fingerprint authentication from within their vehicle.
When a compatible Mercedes-Benz pulls up to a connected service station and shuts off the engine, the option to pay through the car’s MBUX infotainment system appears on the screen.
The system automatically displays the maximum charge, calculated based on the price of fuel and the emptiness of the tank.
Once authorised using the driver’s fingerprint, the vehicle can then be filled, with the final amount appearing on the screen and the invoice charged to their Mastercard – all while avoiding the service station shop.
While the service is only available at 3600 fuel stations in Germany, it’s possible the technology could be rolled out to other countries in the coming years.
