√Renault Megane RS almost sold out in Australia
The last high-performance Renault with petrol power is about to reach the end of the road.
There are less than 50 new Renault Megane RS hot hatchbacks left available in Australia as the curtain prepares to be closed on the last petrol Renault Sport performance car.
The final examples of the Megane RS were produced for Australia in March this year – including a batch of 40 ‘Ultime’ special editions with unique decals and trim – and all have arrived in Australia.
A Renault Australia spokesperson told Drive there are just 29 new vehicles remaining – mostly regular Trophy models, with a “handful” of Ultime editions – in dealer stock.
The Megane RS is the last model to wear the French car giant’s Renault Sport badge, as future high-performance models from Renault will be electric – and wear Alpine branding.
Plans for a successor to the standard Renault Megane hatchback – with petrol or electric power – are yet to surface.
The Megane name lives on in Australia and overseas with the Megane E-Tech Electric city SUV, due in local showrooms early next year priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs – similar to the outgoing Megane RS hot hatch ($63,000 plus on-roads for a manual Trophy).
“Once they’re gone, they’re gone,” Renault Australia boss Glen Sealey told a media briefing earlier this year.
“Most of the final editions are accounted for. In fact, some of our staff have put up their hand to try to secure one.”
