√More than 9000 Ford Mustangs recalled due to brake fault

The outgoing Ford Mustang is being recalled in Australia after it was discovered the muscle car might not warn owners when its brake fluid level is low.

Ford Australia has recalled 9194 examples of its 2019-2023 Ford Mustang, due to a fault with the muscle car’s brake fluid sensor.

The recall affects the outgoing ‘FN’ Mustang – the facelifted version of the only factory-built right-hand-drive Mustang to date – which arrived in Ford’s Australian showrooms in 2018.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software issue, the brake fluid warning light may not illuminate as intended to warn the driver if the brake fluid level is low. As a result, insufficient brake fluid could lead to a reduction in braking performance.

“A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Ford Australia has advised it will contact owners of affected vehicles in writing to make an appointment at their preferred Ford dealer to have the vehicle’s Body Control Module (BCM) software updated, free of charge.
