√2023 Kia EV6 GT price revealed for the UK

Kia’s supercar-baiting electric family SUV looks set to be a $100,000 car when it arrives in Australia late this year, or early next.

Pricing for the 2023 Kia EV6 GT has been confirmed for the UK, providing a hint at what to expect when the electric performance SUV arrives in Australia in late 2022 or early 2023.

In Kia UK showrooms at the end of 2022, the EV6 GT will cost £59,995 drive-away ($AU104,700) – a 14 per cent increase over the £52,695 ($AU92,000) of the most expensive ‘standard’ EV6, the GT-Line S all-wheel drive.

The same EV6 GT-Line variant in Australia is $82,990 plus on-road costs, or just over $91,000 drive-away in metro Sydney/Melbourne – suggesting the EV6 GT will cost about $94,500 plus on-road costs, or nearly $105,000 drive-away.

While it would comfortably earn the title of the most expensive Kia ever sold, it’s (slightly) cheaper than its main rival, the Tesla Model Y Performance, priced from about $98,000 plus on-road costs, or $105,500 drive-away in the same cities.

Buyers aren’t left wanting for performance in the Kia though, with dual electric motors and a 77.4kWh battery pack combining for outputs of 430kW and 740Nm, good for a 3.5-second 0-100km/h time, and a 260km/h top speed.

Helping to keep the car on the road is an electronic limited-slip differential and adaptive suspension, while bringing the entire package to a halt are 380mm front and 360mm rear ventilated brake discs with green calipers (vs 325mm front and rear on a GT-Line).

There are six drive modes: the usual Eco, Normal, Sport and ‘My Drive Mode’ settings, plus a higher-performance GT mode activated by a switch on the steering wheel, and a dedicated Drift mode that “sends a higher proportion of power to the rear wheels”.

Styling upgrades over the GT-Line include 21-inch wheels (replacing 20s), revised front and rear aprons and a new faux ‘grille’ insert between the headlights.

Inside, front occupants benefit from sports bucket seats from the Hyundai i30 N hot hatch, plus lime green contrast stitching, a GT button on the steering wheel, unique dashboard trim, and leather and suede seat upholstery.

The 2023 Kia EV6 GT is due in Australian showrooms in late 2022, or early 2023. Full pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
