  • 2023 BMW 7 Series and i7 pricing and specifications
  • Australian range limited to six-cylinder petrol and electric power
  • Deliveries to begin in the fourth quarter of 2022
  • Priced from $268,900 before on-road costs

The 2023 BMW 7 Series has been locked in for its Australian launch later this year, with the petrol-powered 740i set to be joined by the electric i7.

Now in its seventh generation, BMW has confirmed the new 7 Series will be offered to Australian buyers in one wheelbase, extended by 5mm compared to the outgoing model while its overall length, width and height have grown by 131mm, 48mm and 65mm respectively.

While the sixth-generation model line-up featured six variants – 730d, 745e, 740i, 740Li, 750i and M760Li – the upcoming 7 Series will initially be sold in 48-volt mild-hybrid 740i trim alongside the electric i7 xDrive60, completely electrifying the nameplate for the first time.

Prices have risen over the outgoing model, to the tune of $23,000 for the 740i model (compared to the outgoing long-wheelbase 740iL).

Just like the iX SUV and many of BMW’s recent model updates, the 7 Series now features the BMW Curved Display which integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, running the brand’s latest iDrive 8 infotainment software.

Power for the 740i comes from the latest generation of BMW’s 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol inline-six engine, boasting 280kW and 540Nm, with a 9kW/200Nm boost from its 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive i7 xDrive60 produces 400kW and 745Nm, with a 106kWh battery pack supplying power, allowing for up to 625 kilometres of driving range while also enabling the luxury sedan to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds – 0.7 seconds less than its petrol-powered counterpart.

A full list of the features on offer is included at the bottom of this story.

The 2023 BMW 7 Series and i7 will arrive in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2022 (October to December).
