√BYD showroom locations announced for Australia

New Chinese electric car brand BYD will operate 12 showrooms across seven Australian states and territories, in partnership with national dealer group Eagers.

Importer of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand BYD, EVDirect, has released details of its national dealer network, ahead of first deliveries of its first series-production model in August or September.

Confirmed in an email to customers, EVDirect will help operate 12 BYD showrooms in partnership with national dealership group Eagers Automotive, spanning all states and territories except the NT.

Four of the BYD ‘Experience Centres’ are in New South Wales alone, including the company’s launch showroom in Darlinghurst, Sydney – with two in Victoria, two in Queensland, and one location each in the ACT, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania.

A number of the Experience Centres line up with the locations of existing Eagers dealerships, however EVDirect has previously promised “dedicated BYD facilities” for its vehicles – suggesting BYD-specific showrooms situated alongside existing dealers for other brands.

The new Eagers-run BYD showrooms will serve as delivery locations for customers, as well as providing an “after-sales experience” including vehicle servicing.

It will complement EVDirect’s existing website for online orders, as well as its deal with repair shop network Mycar (formerly Kmart Tyre and Auto) to service BYD vehicles.

While it was previously anticipated that BYD vehicles would be delivered through Mycar locations, it’s hinted this will be replaced by delivery at the BYD Experience Centres, as hinted by the wording in EVDirect’s communication to customers.

“If you have a current BYD on order, the Customer Care Centre will contact you closer to the date of your delivery with details of your nearest BYD Experience Centre or to discuss your tailored delivery option,” the company says.

The locations of the showrooms are as follows:

New South Wales: Darlinghurst, Sutherland, Castle Hill (all in Sydney) and Cardiff (outer Newcastle)
Victoria: Dandenong (south-east Melbourne), Brooklyn (west Melbourne)
Queensland: Indooroopilly (Brisbane), Robina (Gold Coast)
Australian Capital Territory: Canberra
South Australia: Medindie (Adelaide)
Western Australia: West Perth
Tasmania: Hobart

As reported in recent weeks, the BYD Atto 3 – the company’s first series-production model for Australia – has been hit with a six to eight-week delay to first deliveries and test drives, following “supply chain issues and logistics disruptions”.

Production of the Atto 3 Standard Range has been pushed back further, to mid-October, ahead of first deliveries scheduled for November or December – in order to focus on production of the Extended Range model, which has accounted for more than 90 per cent of orders to date.

Priced from $44,381 plus on-road costs – or as little as $44,990 drive-away – the BYD Atto 3 is one of Australia’s most affordable electric vehicles, and set to be one of the most popular, with more than 3000 orders accumulated to date.
