√Video: Scooter-riding thieves attack $4.8m Bugatti while driving in traffic

A Bugatti Chiron hypercar was targeted in London traffic by a group of hammer-wielding criminals, dressed as food-delivery riders on scooters.

Driving a fancy car can often attract the wrong type of attention, and in the case of this $4.8 million Bugatti Chiron, it was the worst kind of attention.

The hypercar was reportedly targeted and stalked in London traffic, in broad daylight, by a gang of thieves on scooters. When the car stopped for an intersection, the criminals attempted to attack the driver by smashing the windows with a hammer.

Owned by Kuwaiti businessman Abdullah Al Basman, the Chiron is finished in royal blue with polished wheels and orange highlights. It’s a spec that has captured the attention of London’s famed ‘carspotting’ photographers.

Powered by an 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine, the Chiron quotes outputs of 1103kW and 1600Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 2.4 seconds and is capable of a top speed in excess of 400km/h.

As reported by The Sun newspaper, the attackers were suspected of trying to steal Al Basman’s $200,000 Platinum Rolex Daytona wristwatch. The same gang, wearing popular food delivery uniforms, were reported to have attacked a pedestrian in a nearby locale on the same day, making off with the gentleman’s timepiece in that instance.

Judging by his social media accounts, Al Basman enjoys driving his Chiron, so we hope this terrible experience doesn’t put him off future motoring endeavours.

And while we assume the car is insured, we would hate to think what a replacement window would cost. Luckily, there’s a Bugatti dealer in London who can most likely assist.
