√Come on Barbie let’s go party… in a Maserati
No, this is not a Halloween costume but a limited-edition ‘Barbie’ Maserati Grecale, which comes with a price even more shocking than the paint.
Maserati’s recently-launched Fuoriserie personalisation program allows buyers to configure their already-special Italian vehicles to be something even more personal and unique than any brochure would allow.
This service can be used to create a rolling work of art, or it can be used to create this…
The result of a collaboration between toy giant Mattel and Maserati, the Barbie Edition Maserati Grecale Trofeo is a limited-edition (just two will be made) example of the brand’s new mid-size SUV, in Barbie Pink (the official colour) with Acid-Yellow highlights.
The exterior paint has been treated with an iridescent top coat to provide a shimmering pearlescent effect, while the black interior scores pink stitching and highlights, with embroidered Barbie ‘B’ motifs on the headrests and decals on the rear pillar just to remind you of the connection, should you ever forget.
Powered by a 390kW/620Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6, the Grecale Trofeo is priced locally from $165,000 before on-road costs.
The Barbie Grecale, to be offered exclusively through American luxury retail brand Neiman Marcus, is just a little dearer at $US330,000 ($AU515,000). Lucky Barbie is a billionaire…
The price positioning is for a good cause though, as part of the sales price will support the Barbie Dream Gap Project, a charity that helps provide equal opportunities for young women and girls around the world.
Pop culture tie-ins with new cars aren’t a new thing, with cars like the 2019 Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edtion offering questionable modifications to suit a very niche ‘superfan’ audience. We expect to see the hot pink Maserati under the arm of an equally questionable reality TV ‘star’ or social media ‘sensation’ at some point soon.
