√2023 Toyota Corolla price and specs: Prices rise by up to $3785
The Toyota Corolla hatchback and sedan range has been updated with new technology, styling and extra hybrid power – but prices have risen by up to $3785, pushing the base model over $30,000 drive-away.
- 2023 Toyota Corolla pricing and specifications
- New infotainment software and larger digital instrument displays
- Hybrid bumped to 103kW with new electric system
- Revised styling and more standard features
- Priced from $28,130 plus on-road costs, up between $2425 and $3785
The top-selling 2023 Toyota Corolla has been hit with price rises of $2425 to $3785 with the arrival of its mid-life upgrade, adding a revised look and new technology.
Due in showrooms this month, the updated Corolla hatch and sedan range has gained an overhauled infotainment system, larger digital instrument cluster, higher standard feature levels, and more power for the strong-selling hybrid models.
But Toyota has increased prices across the range by between $2425 and $3785 – meaning the entry-level Ascent Sport petrol hatch is now priced from $28,130 plus on-road costs, or almost $32,000 drive-away on a Sydney postcode.
The cheapest hybrid now costs more than $30,000, at $30,630 before on-road costs (or nearly $35,000 drive-away) – while the top-of-the-range ZR hybrid sedan, a new model for 2023, is priced from $39,120 before on-road costs, or about $43,000 drive-away (Sydney).
Further price pressure is due on 1 January 2023, when Toyota is expected to increase the price by a further $500 across the range due to inflation and rising manufacturing costs (more details here).
Headlining the upgrades is an upgraded hybrid system, which combines a carry-over 1.8-litre petrol engine with a new-generation electric motor and battery for a combined output of 103kW, up 13kW (and 5kW more than the 8kW gain announced earlier this year).
Meanwhile, standard models with 2.0-litre non-turbo petrol engines have been given a boost to 126kW/202Nm (hatch) or 126kW/203Nm (sedan)– up from 125kW/200Nm in both previously. All Corollas drive the front wheels through a continuously-variable automatic transmission.
Exterior updates consist of restyled grille inserts for all models (with metallic fog light surrounds for the hatch), new 16-inch wheels for the Ascent Sport and SX, and revised headlight and tail-light signatures.
Exterior changes include new 16-inch wheels for Ascent Sport and SX grades, and the adoption of a redesigned front grille for hatch and sedan variants.
Inside, the 8.0-inch touchscreen now runs Toyota’s latest infotainment software, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, newly-standard DAB digital radio across the range, and connectivity via a USB-C port below the display.
While the revised 8.0-inch screen is an upgrade, local models miss out on the new-for-2023, enlarged 10.5-inch touchscreen available on high-grade model grades in Japan, which are built on the same production line as Australian cars.
Ahead of the driver is a 7.0-inch instrument display in the Ascent Sport and SX, with a 12.3-inch widescreen cluster in the ZR. Previously, a 4.2-inch screen was standard in the Ascent Sport and SX, upgrading to the 7.0-inch display in the ZR.
Following the related Corolla Cross SUV, the 2023 Corolla range gains support for Toyota Connected Services, offering owners a suite of remote-control features through a MyToyota Connect smartphone app.
In some or all models, the system comprises features such as automatic collision detection (which automatically calls emergency services), a stolen vehicle tracker, remote fuel level check, remote door locking or window operation, remote start or light control, and in SX and ZR hatchbacks, remote control of the air-conditioning system.
However, most of the system’s functions are locked behind a monthly subscription fee after the first 12 months of ownership. Click here to read more about Toyota Connected Services and myToyota Connect.
Satellite navigation is now standard in hybrid Ascent Sport sedans – along with illuminated sun visors – while all hybrid models add rear seat reminders, and all SX grades gain rain-sensing wipers and auto-dimming rear-view mirrors (previously exclusive to the ZR).
Safety has been upgraded with an improved autonomous emergency braking system, now capable of detecting motorcycles and preventing collisions when turning across intersections – among other changes – with better camera and radar sensors.
The lane trace assist system now includes an emergency stop function if the driver is detected to be incapacitated, the adaptive cruise control system has been improved, and blind-spot monitoring is now standard across the Corolla hatch range (but not the sedan).
The Ascent Sport is available with a $1000 Convenience Pack – replacing the $1000 satellite navigation option previously available, which adds rear cross-traffic alert to both body styles, and either front and rear parking sensors to the hatch, or blind-spot monitoring to the sedan.
The colour palette has also been revised – including a new Sunstone Orange hero colour for the hatchback.
A list of standard features, prices and colours is included at the bottom of this story.
