The price of Ford’s entry-level electric pick-up keeps getting more and more expensive, following the third significant price rise in four months.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning has been hit with yet another price hike in the US, marking the third time prices have increased for the electric pick-up in four months.

Ford has increased the price of the F-150 Lightning by $US4000 to $US55,974 ($AU83,612) for the workhorse Pro model – meaning the electric pick-up is now a significant 40 per cent more expensive than its original starting price of $US39,974 ($AU59,670), announced in May 2021.

It’s understood customers who already have orders placed will not be affected by the price change – the third in four months, following increases in August and October.

A statement issued to media outlets in the US by Ford cites “rising material costs, market factors, and ongoing supply-chain constraints” as the reasons behind its latest decision.

When the car giant increased the price for the F-150 Lightning in August 2022, the company also increased the pick-up’s driving range from 370km to 386km – as well as adding Pro Trailer Hitch Assist technology – though it’s not clear if any features have been added this time.

While the regular petrol-powered Ford F-150 is due to go on sale in Australia from mid 2023, the company’s Australian arm has told Drive it is open to the prospect of adding the battery-powered Lightning to its local line-up in the future.
