The track-focused Nismo version of the new Nissan Z sports coupe has been spied for the first time in its production form, ahead of its expected launch next year.
New photos of a prototype are finally believed to provide our first look at the 2023 Nissan Z Nismo flagship coupe, ahead of its expected launch next year.
Images published widely on Facebook and Twitter show a Nissan Z testing on US roads in full camouflage, disguising unique bumpers and spoilers, new wheels and tyres, larger brakes and upgraded sports seats.
Camouflaged prototype versions of Nissan’s latest sports car have been a regular occurrence in California in recent months, recently spied testing alongside a standard Z and a Nismo version of the outgoing 370Z.
But none of these previous prototypes have displayed as many changes compared to the standard car as this latest one – suggesting it is our first look at the upcoming Nismo in its production-ready form.
Reports out of Japan suggest the Z Nismo is due in overseas showrooms mid next year, with more power, a revised chassis, larger brakes and sportier styling – for a price close to $100,000.
The Z Nismo was snapped testing in California alongside a Toyota GR Supra and BMW M2 Competition, according to Facebook user Aldo Rosas, who claims to have taken one of the photos.
Exterior changes visible in the new images include a revised front bumper – which splits the regular car’s rectangular central intake into two – plus a pronounced lower front splitter.
The rear bumper is new – with two carry-over exhaust tips, but packaged into a sportier surround – while there’s are subtle wheel-arch extensions, a larger rear lip spoiler, and what appears to be an F1-style central light (likely for reversing or a rear fog-lamp) between the exhausts.
The wheels appear to be the 20-inch nine-spoke forged alloys from the Nissan GT-R Nismo supercar – up from the standard Z’s 19-inch units – hiding larger brake discs and red-painted calipers.
Inside, slim Recaro sports seats similar to those of the outgoing 370Z Nismo are visible.
Japanese magazine Best Car reports the Nismo-tuned Z is set to receive unique interior upholstery with red stitching, a leather and Alcantara steering wheel, and revised instrument graphics.
The Z Nismo prototype appears to ride lower than the standard model – and Best Car reports the production car is set to gain retuned suspension, a sports exhaust, Yamaha performance chassis dampers, and a host of chassis braces around the car.
The magazine claims more power will be extracted from the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged ‘VR30’ V6 engine, to boost power and torque above the standard 298kW and 475Nm.
The 2023 Nissan Z Nismo is reportedly due in Japanese showrooms in the middle of next year – with a price that would translate to up to $100,000 once in Australia.
