√2019-2022 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 recalled due to faulty tailgate

More than 3000 Ram pick-ups have been recalled in Australia, triggered by a fault which cause tailgates to open while on the move.

Ram Trucks Australia has recalled 3014 examples of its 2019-2022 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, due to a fault which could cause the tailgate to open while driving.

The factory-backed Ram Trucks Australia – which converts Ram’s pick-ups from left- to right-hand-drive at the Walkinshaw facility in Melbourne – says the fault stems from when the vehicles were originally assembled in left-hand-drive, and affects examples of the popular 1500, and its larger 2500 and 3500 siblings built between 2019 and 2022.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing defect, one or both the tailgate strikers may have been misaligned during assembly. This may result in an unintended tailgate opening while the vehicle is in motion or stationary.

“If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is in motion, unsecured cargo may fall onto the road and into traffic. This increases the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
