√2023 Honda ZR-V: Australian launch due by mid year

Slotting in between the small HR-V and mid-size CR-V, the Honda ZR-V family SUV is expected to begin arriving in the country in the coming months.

The 2023 Honda ZR-V is due to make its Australian debut in the second quarter (April to June) of this year, Drive understands.

People familiar with the matter told Drive the mid-size ZR-V is on track to arrive here in April or May – pending any unforeseen delays – joining Honda’s local line-up to sit between the smaller HR-V and larger CR-V.

While Honda Australia hasn’t specifically confirmed the ZR-V by name, the company has previously revealed plans to add a third SUV to its portfolio at some point in 2023.

However, documents filed by Honda with the Department of Infrastructure in November 2022 confirm plans to launch the ZR-V soon – though exact details and specifications remain unknown.

In its native Japan, the ZR-V is available with either a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 131kW and 240Nm, or a 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid system with 135kW and 315Nm.

Both engines are borrowed from the Honda Civic – the ZR-V’s twin under the skin – though the ZR-V is expected to be offered in both front- and all-wheel drive.

The ZR-V’s dimensions are near identical to a Mazda CX-5, making it a natural rival when the Honda goes on sale. The CX-5 is priced from $35,510 to $54,500 before on-road costs locally.

The cabin also echoes the Civic’s interior design, featuring a honeycomb-style vent across the dashboard, a tablet-style 9.0-inch infotainment screen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, leather seats, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo.

The ZR-V also features LED headlights, a power tailgate, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 2023 Honda ZR-V is expected to launch in Australia in the second quarter of the year (April to June inclusive).
