√Australian electric-car charging networks increase prices

Two of Australia’s biggest electric-car charging networks are increasing their costs, with large price discrepancies emerging across the industry.

Recharging an electric car could cost more from this week, with both Evie and Ampol announcing price increases.

Ampol’s AmpCharge network will now cost drivers 69 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) at its 150kW chargers – up from 60 cents per kWh, representing a 15 per cent increase.

Evie has also announced it will begin charging 45 cents per kWh at its 50kW chargers from Monday 13 February 2023 – up from 40 cents per kWh, or a 12.5 per cent increase.

However, Evie says its 350kW ultra-fast chargers will continue to cost drivers 60 cents per kWh to use.

Last month, Tesla announced it was opening up a limited number of its chargers to non-Tesla vehicles, with up to 120kW available at a cost of 79 cents per kWh – or 66 cents per kWh in conjunction with a $9.99/month subscription.

Tesla owners, meanwhile, are charged between 58 and 70 cents per kWh (depending on the location), with up to 250kW available.
