√Video: Police Highway Patrol car rolling on bald tyres, man claims
Less than five years after a fatal crash involving a police car with ‘bald’ tyres, a video has emerged of a Highway Patrol vehicle with allegedly unroadworthy tyres.
A video has been posted online which claims to show unroadworthy rear tyres on a police car.
The video, posted across social media, appears to show a man checking the rear tyres of a Highway Patrol car in Victoria while on a traffic stop.
“The inside is bald as a baby’s bottom – so your car is defected,” he quips at a police officer, who gets on the ground to inspect the Highway Patrol car’s tyres.
“So before handing out defects, maybe check your own car,” he added.
His comments infer his own Ford Falcon was being issued with a defect notice after being pulled over.
Investigations by Drive indicate the 2020 BMW 530d is operated by Greensborough Highway Patrol – though Victoria Police would not provide any comment on the incident.
While not the first time, this is the most recent incident in which a police car has been found to be operating with dangerous tyres.
In June 2022, South Australia Police was accused of hypocrisy after a motorcyclist pointed out a bald tyre on a patrol car – while his motorbike was being issued with a defect.
In May 2018, an ACT Police vehicle was involved in a fatal accident, with investigations finding the Holden Commodore police car had poorly-maintained brakes and three bald tyres.
