Porsche’s most powerful Cayenne ever is the 544kW Turbo E-Hybrid, confirmed for Australia with drive-away prices expected to exceed $300,000.
German car-maker Porsche has revealed the most powerful version of its Cayenne SUV to date – the 544kW/950Nm Turbo E-Hybrid.
The Turbo E-Hybrid is the successor in the facelifted Cayenne model range to the previous Turbo S E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid SUV, now producing 44kW and 50Nm more than its predecessor.
In many European markets with strict emissions regulations, it will serve as Porsche’s indirect replacement for the high-performance Cayenne Turbo GT edition – which will remain available in Australia.
Priced from $288,400 plus on-road costs in traditional ‘wagon’ guise – or $297,200 plus on-roads as a ‘Coupe’ – the Turbo E-Hybrid sits below only the flagship performance Turbo GT Coupe ($366,200 plus on-road costs) as the most expensive Porsche Cayenne on sale in Australia.
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is powered by a 441kW, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is mated to a 130kW electric motor, delivering combined outputs of 544kW/950Nm.
Those figures represent an increase of 59kW and 100Nm compared to the Cayenne Turbo GT.
However the Turbo E-Hybrid is 0.4 seconds slower than the performance variant when accelerating from 0-100km/h – completing the sprint in 3.7 seconds – and has a 10km/h lower top speed (295km/h), likely due in part to the extra weight of the battery pack.
Porsche claims the updated plug-in hybrid Cayenne has an electric-only driving range greater than its predecessor, though it does not provide an official figure.
The outgoing Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid quoted a claimed driving range of 42km on the European WLTP test cycle from its 17.9kWh battery – while the new model is equipped with a 25.9kWh pack, which can be topped up via an 11kW on-board charger.
Additional upgrades under the bodywork include a two-chamber, two-valve adaptive air suspension system – which Porsche claims provides a wider spectrum of suspension firmness between the Comfort and Sport Plus driving modes – as well as an enhanced Torque Vectoring Plus system.
Available in certain markets will be rear-axle steering and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control.
On the outside, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is equipped with ‘high-definition’ Matrix LED headlights, while it can also be distinguished from other Turbo models by its brushed stainless steel exhaust pipes and red brake calipers.
Inside, the cabin features aluminium dashboard inlays and door panel trims, a heated GT sports steering wheel and 18-way power-adjustable leather sports seats – though 14-way power-adjustable leather ‘comfort’ seats are available as an option.
Certain markets will also be offered the ‘GT Package’, which adds certain styling and mechanical upgrades from the Turbo GT – including a more aggressively-tuned suspension system (sitting 10mm lower), increased front camber, wider 22-inch GT design wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, PDCC and rear-axle steering.
Exterior tweaks include black accents on the front bumper and wheel arch extensions, carbon spoiler side-plates, a centre-exit exhaust system and carbon fibre roof.
Porsche Australia is yet to confirm when the new Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is due in local showrooms. The rest of the model range is scheduled to arrive between July and September 2023.
