√Honda teases electric vehicle family
Japanese car maker teases wild-looking new electric vehicle, to be revealed in Las Vegas in early 2024.
Honda has shown a teaser of a new electric-vehicle line to be revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January 2024.
Following the striking Honda Prelude concept at the Tokyo show in October 2023, the Japanese car maker issued a teaser of a new electric car showing a steeply raked nose and triangular-themed wheel design.
The single image shows a vehicle with different design cues to the electric Honda NSX concept shown in August 2023 by Acura – the US luxury division of the Japanese car maker.
That suggests the Vegas reveal will be close to production-ready versions of the next electric vehicles from the Honda E:N family, moving forward from the electric Honda concept cars shown in Shanghai in April 2023.
A statement from Honda said it will also reveal ‘several key technologies’ at CES 2024 as it undergoes a ‘significant transformation’.
The company has previously said it will introduce 30 different electric cars as well as solid-state batteries by 2030, making up 2 million sales globally as it pursues a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
The Honda Prologue electric SUV is set to go on sale in the US in 2024 – although it won’t be sold in Australia – using the General Motors (GM) Ultium battery architecture that will underpin the Cadillac Lyriq in Australia, also due in 2024.
In October 2023, Honda and General Motors (GM) ended a partnership to produce an affordable electric vehicle, with GM since confirming that it will re-introduce a heavily updated Chevrolet Bolt electric city car in 2025.
While Honda has experimented with electric vehicles since the 1990s, it introduced the Honda E electric city car in 2019 styling paying tribute to the original Honda Civic city car from 1972.
Yet the Honda E was not offered by Honda Australia, but instead sold through private importers.
At this stage, there appear to be no electric vehicles coming to Honda Australia showrooms until at least 2028.
The local arm of the car maker said in July 2023 it will focus on hybrid and conventional petrol-powered cars for the immediate future.
