The breakdown caused havoc on a freeway on-ramp in the US after it forced another Big Rig to get stuck on the verge as it tried to get past.

The video was captured by Serge The Car Hauler and posted on his YouTube channel – and spotted by Carscoops, which was first to publish the story.

The footage shows the broken down Tesla Semi, a stranded Big Rig, a tow truck, police – and a Tesla service van, a Ford Transit which, presumably runs on petrol or diesel power (unless Ford has already updated to a Ford e-Transit electric van).

The trucker who filmed the video footage appears to have prior knowledge of the Tesla Semi breakdown, because he had his camera rolling long before the on-ramp came into view.

Rolling to a stop on the side of the road, the trucker got clear footage of the whole scene without even needing to get out of his prime mover.

The Tesla Semi was due to start production in 2019 after being unveiled in 2017. The company says production is now underway.

After a series of delays and broken promises, Tesla boss Elon Musk now claims the first batch of Tesla Semi electric trucks will be delivered to soft drink giant Pepsi by the end of this year.
