√For sale: Ferrari F40 owned by Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff
The team principal who led Mercedes-Benz to a record eight-straight Formula One championships is selling a rare Ferrari F40 supercar.
The boss of the Mercedes-Benz Formula One team – Toto Wolff – is selling a highly sought-after Ferrari F40 less than a year after a new auction record was set for the iconic supercar.
Listed by UK company Tom Hartley Jnr, this 1990 Ferrari F40 is one of 1315 road-going examples built by the Italian car-maker between 1987 and 1992, and only one of 27 first registered in Spain.
It’s not the first time Toto Wolff has sold cars from his personal collection through Tom Hartley Jnr.
In 2021, a Ferrari LaFerrari, Ferrari Enzo and Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series owned by the Mercedes-AMG Formula One team principal were sold by the UK firm.
At the time, Mr Wolff said he was downsizing his collection due to not having enough time to drive the supercars – which is only due to be reduced again thanks to this year’s record-breaking 23-race Formula One season.

Launched in 1987, the Ferrari F40 was the last car approved for production by Enzo Ferrari – the iconic brand’s founder – before his death in 1988, leading to its status as one of the marque’s most famous models.
The Ferrari F40 was capable of producing up to 352kW and 577Nm from its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which – combined with a kerb weight of 1235kg – allowed it to achieve a claimed top speed of 324km/h.
According to the Tom Hartley Jnr listing, Mr Wolff’s Ferrari F40 has recorded approximately 5500km on its odometer since it was built 33 years ago, with Italian supercar restoration specialist Autofficina Bonini Carlo recently giving it a ‘complete overhaul’.
This example has also been certified by Ferrari as having its original engine, transmission, chassis and body through the company’s ‘Red Book Classiche’ program.
Tom Hartley Jnr has listed the Ferrari F40 as ‘price on application’ and without a guide of what it is expected to sell for.
In August 2022, the record price for a Ferrari F40 road car was set at a Gooding and Company auction at Pebble Beach, California. The 1990 example sold for $US3,965,000 – equivalent to almost $5.6 million in Australian currency.
The highest price for a Ferrari F40 race car (known as the F40 LM) was achieved in February 2019, with RM Sotheby’s selling the former pre-production prototype at auction for €4,842,500 ($AU7.4 million today).
